I dabbled in a few different things in the month of August, between getting ready for the start of the school year and then falling back into that routine. I spent most of the two weeks since school started reading, relaxing, recharging, and doing odd things around the house that I’ve been meaning to do since the pandemic fell on our heads. As for writing, I worked a little bit on STARCALLER’s worldbuilding, did a couple of Patreon posts, blogged at Cartridges & Catacombs, and even started working on edits for BLOOD OF SALT, TEARS OF PEARL.
Word Counts in August:
Cartridges & Catacombs: 1430
BLOOD OF SALT, TEARS OF PEARL: 799
Total Words Written in August: 9,187
Total Words Written in 2020: 84,376
Plans for August:
I started working on some character notes for revising BLOOD OF SALT, TEARS OF PEARL. I need to polish that up a little bit and write out any additional thoughts for revisions before I dive head-first into that monstrous thing. At this point, I realize I’ve been putting off revisions because 600+ pages to edit seems like such a daunting, soul-crushing task. I’ve been playing with the idea of finishing the revisions for REBEL ENGINEER (Chroniker City #4) first because it’s a 1/5th of the length and would be so much easier to complete, in theory. I don’t know if that’s just procrastination brain talking (probably) or if it would actually help to complete something else before diving into revising BLOOD OF SALT, TEARS OF PEARL (possibly also true), but the idea has a little bit of merit I think. It would be nice to have another completely finished book under my belt to remind me that I actually might know what I’m doing here.
I may take a look at REBEL ENGINEER this week and see what needs done, and if it’s worth the trouble at this point in time, or if I should just suck it up and dive into BLOOD OF SALT, TEARS OF PEARL… rip the Band-Aid off right here and now. I suppose we shall see.
